Why this one over
over this one ? (Even though this one (JDM) is technically superior) This is something that has always confused me especially as the USDM civic Si of this generation shared almost the same chassis as the JDM (IRS) but even still people want the Fit/Jazz (torsion beam rear suspenion) based UKDM type r.

The JDM one is actually the USDM Civic! It was also sold in Europe as the Civic sedan, and in Canada as the Acura CSX, but all that’s really different are the front and rear clips.
The UK hatch, though, couldn’t be more different from what’s available in the US, so I’m guessing that’s why people like it more.

We had the saloon briefly in the U.K.
Royal Gibraltar Police
But the Civic three and five door hatches replaced them.
They look so much better in hatchback form.
Even the 1.4i VTEC

The Fit/Jazz and Civic are not related. The civic is bigger, think Golf sized where the Fit is Fiesta sized.

It was the suspension tuning; much more focused in UKDM than US or JDM version. The British car also had more in common with the BTCC race car, but I’m not sure of the chicken /egg arrangement in that regard.

I was just sad we never got any Type-Rs, and the ones they featured on Top Gear look pretty cool (although I guess we got close with the SiR which was made in Surrey, I believe).

Interesting I never knew Europe official had the 4 door. I agree the hatch is better looking in standard trim compared to the standard 4 door.

If you look at the suspension design of the ukdm/euro civic the rear axle is basically the torsion beam suspension of the fit/jazz stretched a bit (this is why the Euro has magic seats) with the normal civic independent front suspension. Meanwhile the world market civic had independent suspension all the way around.

Both beams but not the same.

SJGeorge, that hatchback in your photo is the first time in a long *ss time Honda was thinking about forward design in their entry lineup. Oh but wait! The US didn’t get that hatchback when they knew any honda fan would want it...
Honda basically did a “japanese inspection” on the US and FINALLY said we would get a Civic type r in 2016/2017. (honda fan or not, could you imagine waiting decades for a car you know could be made?)

Saloon cars are okay and all but invariably more for the upper end of transportation where hatchbacks are generally more efficient uses of space and hatchbacks generally have much better access to the space also.
Saloons you have to tuck the contents under the lip of the rear window where the hatch, well you lift the rear window out of the way.

I understand in fact I prefer the styling of the hatch but I have always wondered if there was any other reason why people tend to ignore the JDM R because Honda also went out of there way for the Japanese type r. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndaUTJ…
